Polemik auf der Überholspur
The rules and long lists of categories requiring one or the other article laid down in standard grammars manage to hide the amount of variation which actually exists in this domain of grammar even in Standard English (StE), let alone the numerous social or regional varieties of English, which do not give ‘two hoots’ for the grammarians’ best efforts to dictate ‘correct usage’. The situation is much the same as when travelling on roads: once you are outside the radar-control zones of the major roads, on ‘B’ roads, you can travel at whatever speek your driving skills and your vehicle may enable you to sustain without having to worry too much about speed control and traffic regulations. Vermutlich jeder Erstsemester würde eine Hausarbeit mit derartiger Polemik um die Ohren gehauen bekommen. So würd’s jedenfall ich machen, wenn mir mal jemand sowas vorlegen würde.
